Diary, March 19, 1862-May 31, 1864.

Eloquent, detailed and fascinating diary discusses every days events for two years beginning and ending in Washington D.C. In between he describes visiting a hospital and observing surgery, experiencing the sight of a battlefield after a battle, his own experiences in battle, the people of the south with whom he interacts, rumors he hears about the war and his very honest opinions about the war and some of the commanding officers. He describes his capture, his trip to the prison and his time there. He gives a vivid account of a dying man hallucinating and begging for food, shortly before he dies. The diary is illustrated with many ink drawings done by the writer. Includes a typed transcript of the diary.
